Whitecroft Newsletter - February 2017

President’s Message

First, if you are not busy this Saturday morning come out to the community hall for a pancake breakfast, breakfast starts at 9:30, the cost is just $2.00 for adults and those 12 and younger are free! Great breakfast, great price, great friends and a great way to kick off a family day long weekend, see you there! Please RRSP to Sandria before Thursday if you plan to attend, 780-467-8186 or gorsansundlie@shaw.ca

Second, the cutoff to purchase a 2017 Whitecroft community league membership is April 1, the cost is $20. We will not be canvassing neighbourhoods this year but memberships can be purchased on-line through our web site, www.whitecrofthall.org, purchased at the pancake breakfast this Saturday, February 18 or by contacting Sandria Sundlie at 780-467-8186 or gorsansundlie@shaw.ca.

Third, Linton Delainey our Ward 6 Councillor, provided an update at our last meeting on several issues of interest to our members, here are the highlights:
    - 728 residents in the immediate vicinity of RR 231, 232 and Twp Rd 522 have been contacted and asked to share their views around the traffic congestion and safety issues in the area.  All residents are encouraged to contact the County and, in particular, their MLA (regarding Twp Rd 522) to share their concerns.
    - Intersection changes could be coming to Twp Rd 522 as early as this year.
    - A multi-use trail from Whitecroft to Wye running along 232 was of concern to many and discussed due to the danger for those who walk or bike to Sherwood Park. Linton will get us some contacts in the real estate development community who may be able to help with trails plus everyone should continue to write letters, start petitions and contact elected officials in the County to ask for changes. If you are interested in helping or spearheading a petition which could be submitted to the county through our councillor please contact me at michuisman@yahoo.ca. Connected, walkable communities are a focal point for Council.
    - A nature pathway plus new community signs were discussed with some options to move these forward.
    - A new Community Halls strategy is in place and working well, this will help by allowing us to use our fundraised money and resources to focus on programs and activities for the benefits of our members and community occupants.

Regards and I hope to see many of you for breakfast on Saturday,

Michael Huisman
WCL President
